Carmichael Soccer League:

A member of District VI of the California Youth Soccer Association North, Carmichael Soccer Club is a Class 4 club in the Capital Valley Youth Soccer League whose playing fields are located in the Carmichael area.

Carmichael Soccer Club is a non-profit recreational soccer club for ages 4 to 18, which is organized by many dedicated volunteers. The club seeks to encourage children to play soccer and have fun! "Learn to love the Game!" The club's goal is to cultivate an atmosphere of learning about soccer in a fun, safe and positive environment with friendly competition.

Registration Requirements Registration packets are available online.ALL Players will need:CA Youth Membership FormOne 1" x 1" photo of player's face (write name & DOB on back)All new players AND players who did not play in the 2010 season MUST give us a copy of a legal birth certificate, passport or military ID. Only copies of a state- or county-issued certificate are acceptable. Note: Returning Carmichael Soccer Club players from last year do not have to bring in a copy of their birth certificate.Hospital or baptismal certificates are not acceptable according to USYSA rules.If you are the guardian or foster parent of a player, you may need to make arrangements to obtain a certified birth certificate through the Recorder's Office of the County and/or State in which the child was born. For Sacramento County, the Recorder's Office is 916-874-6334. Copies of birth certificates can be faxed to you for a small fee.If your child goes by a name different than that listed on his or her birth certificate, you must provide legal name amendment documents. Without them, the player must be registered using the name as listed on the birth certificate.

Carmichael Soccer Club scholarship assistance for the fall 2011 season is closed. However, no child shall be turned away due to financial difficulties. Please contact the registrar with any questions.

Uniforms can be purchased at registration, through kombatsoccer.com, at the Kombat soccer store on Fair Oaks Blvd at Watt or at Kick-off (August 2011). The cost is $25.00 and includes a jersey, shorts and socks.

Registration Fee and Volunteer Deposit/Donation Information

Carmichael Soccer Club is a success because of the many dedicated volunteers who keep it running. To assure that everyone contributes to the success of the club, there is a volunteer deposit fee. Through the last registration event on May 21, 2011, each family may either volunteer 2 hours of assistance or donate the $30.00 deposit to the club. Your volunteer check will be given back to you after you have completed your volunteer hours. If a family fails to complete their volunteer activity, the deposit is forfeited to the club and those funds are used to gather the necessary resources to make each event successful. We prefer to have families participating in our events.

Late registrations do not have the option to volunteer and must make a non-refundable donation of $30.00.

Refund Policy

All refund requests will include the $30 volunteer fee paid, unless forfeited due to failure to show up for an assigned volunteer shift.

All refund requests must be submitted in writing.

A 15% administration fee per player will be deducted from any refunds requested through June 30th.

After June 30th, a 15% administration fee and additional Capitol Valley Youth Soccer League registration fee of $19.00 per player will be deducted from any refund.

No refunds will be given after the Kick-Off Event. See Events page for the date.

Frequently Asked QuestionsWhy is there no online registration?CYSA requires original signatures on their player, coaching and team parent forms and does not allow electronic signatures. Once they allow electronic signatures we will work to create on online registration system. How do I let you know my soccer team preferences for my child?On the Member form, there is a line that asks for your requests. You may list your requests for coach or team or a friend or group of friends. We will do our best to meet your requests. Other than players who want to return to their previous team and who register at one of the registration events, requests will be processed in a first come-first served order. I don't know any of the coaches or players in this club, how will you decide where to place my child?Without any other requests on the player's Member form, we try to put players with other players who go to the same school and who are the same age. Why do you need a picture of my child?The pictures go on the back of the player card, which the referee reviews before each game. Without a clear photo of the player's face, the referee will be unable to allow your child to play in the game. The focus on detail may vary from referee to referee. We recommend that you provide a clear photo of your child's face, without any hats or sunglasses that might make it hard to see what they look like. Why does the picture need to be 1" x 1"?The pictures go on the back of the player card where the Capital Valley Youth Soccer League Registrar may also assign her stamp. Keeping the photo to a 1" x 1" size makes sure that there is enough room for everything on the back of the card. My child's photo is larger than 1" x 1". If I cut it down to the correct size, some of their head will be missing. What should I do?Please keep all parts of their head in the picture! If you can't find a photo that fits their head (but not much else) into a 1" x 1" square, please give us the closest you can get to that goal. If what you submitted just won't fit on the player card, we'll work with you to get a picture that will fit. Why do I need to bring a copy of my child's birth certificate?The children play in age groups and for many reasons we need to make sure that the children are the appropriate age for their division, especially that they are not older than the other players. To confirm this for the California Youth Soccer Association, we must have a copy of a government-issued document that verifies your child's date of birth. This can be a county- or state-issued birth certificate, a passport, legal documents that include date of birth and child's name, or other government identification. If your child played with Carmichael Soccer Club last year, you do not need to provide any age verification this year. Why can't I use the hospital birth certificate to prove my child's age?The hospital birth certification is not a legal document and would be easy to falsify. Proof of age must be a legal document. How are teams put together?The first players assigned are those who want to return to the previous year's team and who submitted their registration at one of the registration events. Once those players are back on their teams, we assign teams based upon the requests listed on the membership form and the information provided at registration. These players are assigned on a first to come to registration, first to be placed on a team basis. Registrations received in the mail will be processed in the order that they are received, after all of the in-person registrations have been assigned to a team. Oh no, I missed all of the registration events. Is it too late to register for this year?Not at all. Carmichael Soccer Club accepts registration through the mail after the last registration event on May 21, 2011. Our website will announce when late registration will close. It might close for some age groups before others, as the teams fill up. Please follow the registration instructions on our website to make sure that you submit all the necessary paperwork. Oh no, I missed all of the registration events. My child really wants to be on the same team as last year.Returning players who register in-person are guaranteed to be on the same team as the previous year as long as the coach is returning. While we will try to get your returning player back onto the team, there are no guarantees since you are registering late. Coaches' Frequently Asked Questions Are there any rules about contacting players for the upcoming season?We think it's great for the teams to stay together over several years. Please remember that since this is recreational soccer, if you are going to contact one player from last year's team, you must contact all the players. How will I know which players from last year's team have registered?Please email the club registrar with a request asking for a list of players that have been assigned to your team. I signed up to be a coach. Why didn't I get a team?Teams are assigned based upon the requests of the player families. If there are not enough families requesting you as a coach, we might not be able to give you a full team. If that occurs, we'll contact you about what options are available. Most likely we'll talk about what other coaches and partial teams are available.

Clinics

Carmichael Soccer Club provides access to coaching clinics so that coaches may learn the skills of coaching and obtain a coaching license. Should you be interested in obtaining an E or District D license, clinics are also available at those levels. Although you must write a check for the clinic at the time you take it, your check will be returned to you upon successful completion of it.

Ten Commandments For Coaches

1. Be patient!

2. Improve one weakness at a time.

3. Encourage questions and discussions.

4. Encourage the players when appropriate.

5. Prepare your players for the unexpected in the game.

6. Provide only one tip or suggestion at a time.

7. Permit the players to make mistakes and learn from them. No coaching for the sidelines.

8. Focus on individual improvement rather than comparing others.

9. Urge them to practice their technique for short periods each day.

10. They will continue to participate if they are playing and learning.

License Levels

CYSA (California Youth Soccer Association) provides coaching clinics for all levels of licensing, from Pre-F through D as well as Goalkeeping clinics through its Coaching School. Times and dates for the coaching clinics TBA. Following are the levels, topics and time required for each:

Pre-F Course

Topics: Intro to soccer and learning and teaching basic technique

Time commitment: 2 hr classroom, 1 hr on the field = 3 hr total

F Course

Topics: Practice sessions, methods, tactics and Restart laws

Time commitment: 3 hr classroom, 6 hr on the field = 9 hr total

Outcome: F certificate

E Course

Topics: systems of play, principles of attack and defense, role of 1st and 2nd attacker and defender, tactics and laws of the game

Time commitment: 6 hr classroom, 12 hr on the field = 18 hr total

Outcome: E certificate

E/D Course

Topics: sports psychology, methods of learning and teaching tactics, team tactics, attacking and defending themes

Time commitment: 10 hr classroom, 22 hr on the field = 32 hr total

Outcome: District D certificate

D Course

Topics: building and rating of coaching ability, preparation for advanced coaching

Time commitment: 10 hr classroom, 26 hr on the field = 36 hr total

Outcome: National D license

Team Parent

Each team will need at least one parent volunteer. If you have two, the duties can be divided.

The Team Parent is in charge of the following (at least):

* Making a Team banner and bringing it to all of the games.

* Organize and assign game snacks.

* Provide assistance to the Coaches for off-field chores, as needed.

* Make phone calls and/or send emails, if necessary.

* Organize a year-end party. The cost of this is divided amongst the players on

the team.

* Order trophies for the end of the year party, if desired by the team.

* Each team is responsible to supply a raffle prize for the Kick-off.

* Collect money from parents for all of the above.

Volunteer

Volunteer efforts make our club run

Carmichael Soccer Club has a $30.00 refundable deposit fee per family. Carmichael Soccer Club has teamed up with VolunteerSpot.com to help us organize and coordinate all of the volunteers we use to make our events successful. Once you have been signed up with VolunteerSpot.com you will receive a confirmation e-mail of the event you just signed up for and two days before the event occurs you will get a reminder e-mail about your scheduled shift. The e-mail will list the event and the time that has been assigned to your family. If you need to change or cancel a shift, or the location of the event just follow the link provide on the reminder e-mail.

Game Information

All games are played on Friday nights at La Sierra Community Center at 5325 Engle Road, Carmichael. The fields can be accessed from either Engle Road or Gibbons Drive. Since only U6 games are played at La Sierra CC on Friday nights, there are several fields and site maps will be posted to provide field locations. Player Information

No player shall be allowed to practice or play on a team unless the player has completed all of the CSC and CVYSL registration requirements - No Exceptions!Players need to bring a size 3 soccer ball to each practice.Each player should bring plenty water for themselves to each practice.Each player must wear shin guards, covered by socks. Each player must wear shoes. Open toe shoes are not permitted.Each player must have a Carmichael Soccer Club uniform. Uniforms will be available for purchase at all Registration dates and at Kick-off. Black shorts and black socks are recommended but any color is acceptable.

Under 6 Rules Carmichael Soccer Club's U6 program is a non-competitive/recreational co-ed program.We do not keep score.We play five (5) players per side; minimum number of players is three.Each player plays equally, minimum of 50% of the time over the course of the season.We play four 8-minute quarters with a 1-minute break between each quarter and a 5-minute half time.At halftime players switch sides of the field.If the ball goes over the touchline (out of bounds on the side), play is re-started by an overhead throw in. If the ball goes over the touchline on the end line, the ball is moved to the sideline and play is re-started with an overhead throw in.No direct kicks, penalty kicks or corner kicks.We do not play with a goalkeeper.The Home Team is always listed second on the schedule and is responsible for bringing their team equipment and setting up the field, providing the game ball, keeping the official time for the game and wearing the yellow "pennes".The soccer ball shall be size 3.Field of play:Dimensions: The field of play shall be rectangular, 40 yards long x 30 yards wide.Markings: Four corners and centerline at the sidelines are marked by orange cones.Goals: The goals shall consist of two flags, six yards apart centered on the end lines.Under 6 Guidelines Each team should provide a snack for half-time (orange slices, etc.) and at the end of the game for their own team.Everyone plays all positions (if trying to have positions).Encourage everyone-try not to call specific names.No yelling of instructions-this only confuses the players.Remember, there are no winners or losers.Practices are no longer than one hour.

"For The Good Of The Game"

Carmichael Soccer Club is one of the biggest clubs in the league, fielding over 900

players and close to 60 teams. We have 9 field locations and on a given Saturday

during the season, there are almost 30 games played, requiring a center ref and 2

assistant refs, or a 1-man system for U8.

Just like other recreational clubs, we depend on parents and young soccer players to

train as referees to work games. A referee's job is for "the good of the game"! Referees

have a big effect on the atmosphere of a game--with a fair, impartial, observant job;

everyone leaves the game with a positive experience. Without good refereeing, the

game experience can be less than wonderful and players or parents can even get out of

hand.

Learning to be a good referee can be a very rewarding experience and is an excellent

way for young players and involved parents to learn the rules of the game, as well as

earn some money.

The Club encourages every parent and soccer player who is 14 years old or more to

attend one of the local referee clinics to earn their license so that they may referee

for one of the many Club games. We will pay the cost of the referee clinic offered

by Carmichael Soccer Club. If you choose to attend a different clinic, the club will

reimburse up to $50.00 of your cost once you have refereed 5 games for the club.

Referees are registered for one year, and must reregister yearly.

If you have ever stood on the sidelines and felt that calls were unfair, here is your

chance to do something! Referees enforce the rules and help to keep players safe.

They are an integral and necessary part of a good soccer experience for your child.

Why not take the time to attend a clinic and get licensed? It's one of the best things you

can do for "the good of the game".

The Carmichael Soccer Club would like to request that all referees and perspective

referees attend the upcoming referee clinics in May 2011. We would also like to invite

coaches to attend the clinics if they have the time...we look forward to seeing you all

there.

Note: to be certified, you must attend ALL four days of classes and pass the

certification test.

Provided: CSC will provide whistle, set of flags and red/yellow card set to new Club

referees. Club will also reimburse new referees for the cost of their license (obtained

from different clubs clinic) if they referee six games for the Club. It is mandatory that all

new referees participate in the Club Kickoff the last Saturday of August by serving as a

referee.

Refereeing well is a hard job, and although most soccer tasks are volunteer, CSC

believes in paying its referees. We use differing rates, depending on the job and age

group. Remember that referees also help to teach the game to the younger players.

U16 and U19 teams (3 man)

Center referee is paid $40.00 and 2 assistant referees are paid $35.00 each.

U8, U12, U10 and U14 teams (3 man)

Center referee is paid $30.00 and 2 assistant referees are paid $25.00 each.

U8 teams (1 man) [when needed]

Center referee is paid $30.00.

CSC pays referees via cash twice each season, once during the bi-week and once at

the end of the season. The center referee will be responsible for mailing in the game

cards to the CSC Referee Coordinator. After each week, please mail the cards to the
